Margaret Fasnacht

Practice Manager

Meet Margaret, a native of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. As the youngest of five siblings, she has been immersed in the world of animals since her earliest days. Her family welcomed their first Siberian Husky home just three months before Margaret's arrival, and from that moment on, her life was filled with furry companions. Throughout her childhood, she has vivid memories of dogs, cats, rats, gerbils, guinea pigs, mice, rabbits, fish, parakeets and countless stray dogs that found their way to her family's doorstep. There were also the occasional escaped cows, pigs, or sheep from the local stockyard down the road.
In high school, Margaret began her journey in veterinary medicine by working as an assistant at her general practice veterinary hospital which served small and large animals. Here, her interests and dedication to animal care flourished into a passion for the field. She also enjoyed connecting with the pet owners she served and helping their four-legged family members.

After taking a year off and working for her own veterinarian, Margaret attended college. She graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Veterinary Medical Technology with a minor in Small Business Management. Afterward, she obtained her certification as a licensed or certified veterinary technician in several states. Over the past two decades, she has taken on the roles of hospital and practice manager, successfully overseeing several emergency and specialty veterinary hospitals in Pennsylvania. Her favorite aspects of veterinary medicine include the animals themselves, the networking opportunities, and the close-knit community that comes with the profession, along with the exciting advancements within the field.

At home, the house is ruled by Cinder, a stray cat who sought refuge during a storm, and two adopted miniature Dachshunds. Luca and Iris came from South Carolina after their previous owner was about to enter hospice care. Luca, affectionately nicknamed "Tiny Boo," is a spirited 13-year-old who has undergone two back surgeries and two dental procedures, making her a champion snuggler and very bossy. Iris, Luca’s daughter, has required her own share of medical care, having faced two back surgeries, two dental procedures, hernia repair, treatments for IBD, and a PDA diagnosis discovered shortly after she was rescued. With unique genetics contributing to her poor vision, Luca is an inquisitive pup who loves to be the center of attention and in everyone's face.

Rounding out the family is Chester, a 17.1 hand Oldenburg gelding, who resides not far away. Chester's favorite treats are sweet potatoes, and he is very expressive when it comes to asking for snacks! Although partially retired, Chester still enjoys hacking around the farm property and the woods.

Beyond her professional commitments, Margaret enjoys time at the barn taking care of Chester, being outdoors, cooking and baking for friends, wine tasting, and traveling. As a self-proclaimed foodie, she is always up for a new food adventure, especially with international cuisines! She has been fortunate to travel internationally thanks to friends located abroad. Two of her most memorable adventures include a horseback riding vacation in Ireland and a two-week volunteer assignment in Belgium, where she collaborated with their version of the SPCA, known as La Croix Bleue de Belgique.
